Open Workshops

'Implementing Field Based Spectral Datasets in Exploration and Mining projects'

AusSpec also hold open training workshops that are available to participants from a variety of organisations and companies.

  • Presented by: AusSpec International

  • Duration: 1 day

  • Options: Introductory or Advanced

  • Content: This workshop is a practical/hands on course designed to train geoscientists in all aspects of spectral geology specifically for mineral exploration and mining

  • Deliverables: each participant receives a CD containing the workshop slides, a PDF version of the workshop manual, an html version of our spectral library (GMEX volume 1), and a trial TSG installation.

Requirements

Participants are recommended to be geoscientists, but otherwise need not have any other prior experience in spectral geology.

Content

  • A review of the basic principles of spectral analysis in the short wavelength infrared (SWIR) and the visible-NIR.
  • Structured approach to mineral analysis: covers the basic skills necessary to identify the spectral characteristics of the major mineral groups: including mixture, composition and crystallinity related changes in these characteristics
  • Data analysis software: The Spectral Geologist (TSG)
  • Practical applications: considerations of using IR analysis on exploration projects e.g sample type, spatially related samples, noise, water, etc.
  • Exploration data sets and applications: examines methods of using spectral data to help recognise alteration and lithology in a variety of geological settings.
  • Techniques for the Integrated Analysis of Geochemical and Spectral Data: looks at techniques which allow spectral data to be used as an integrated part of mineral exploration programs and of quickly recognising relationships between alteration mineralogy and target mineralisation. Examines methods of statistical and spatial visualisation of the data.
