The Spectral Expert system

The Spectral Expert (TSE) system created by AusSpec provide users with a rapid way of processing their spectra.

The TSE files are a series of TSG template files that contain the processing methods for calculation of specific spectral parameters or mineral indices.

These files are the product of AusSpec's experience over the last 15 years, and include the most useful and commonly used spectral parameters for mineral analysis. We also customise TSE files for client's specific project requirements, so that only relevant data are output.

The TSE files can either be used with GESSL to output mineral assemblage classifications and mineral specific data, used with the TSA (The Spectral Assistant) output, or purely just to calculate generalised spectral indices/parameters from your project spectra.

The TSE template file outputs are:

  • A series of scalars or spectral parameters calculated from diagnostic absorption features.
  • A series of mineral classifications, based either on processing using GESSL or TSA.
  • Mineral specific scalars directly dependent on the GESSL or TSA mineral results.

Most importantly, the TSE output can be analysed and integrated with other project data (such as geochemistry, logging and lithology) and used to produce spatial plots of mineral variations or alteration within a project area.

Plotting the TSE scalars spatially is an effective way of communicating the results of spectral analyses to colleagues unfamiliar with spectral data.  This is because the spectral results can be presented down hole, in sections, maps or block models (i.e. in a format that can be understood without reference to the spectral curves, which are meaningless "squiggly lines" to the non-expert).
